Sexual Health

What changes occur in my sexuality during menopause?

Menopause has many effects on your sexual health - mostly in negatives ways. The reduction in estrogen causes dryness in your vagina, making intercourse uncomfortable or even painful and increase your risk for UTIs. Frequent night sweats and hot flashes are distracting and even debilitation for some women. You might find your sex drive diminishes due to the natural drop in testosterone that happens in mid-life and this may further worsen as these symptoms come together to add to your stress. Combine all of those issues with life changes such as empty nest and spending more time with your partner than you may be used to, and things may not be as positive as you'd like. If all of this may be resulting in a less satisfying sex life than you had hoped for. If this describes you or if you have any concerns about your sexual health, talk to Mickie at Ovation Women's Wellness. She has special training in sexual dysfunction and is open and easy to talk to and to help you find a solution.

I’ve seemed to have lost my desire for intimacy. Can it be restored?

You're not alone in your reduced sexual desire. Among menopausal women, 70% reported a reduction in their sex drive. You may lose your desire for intimacy because of hormone changes, life distractions, uncomfortable dryness, or lack of sensation. You may have less blood flowing to your vagina, too. If sex hurts, it's no wonder you lose your interest. Also, once this begins to hurt, you tend to guard and to avoid intimacy and this may result in worsening pain and can result in a "snowball effect" of things starting bad and getting worse.

Ovation Women's Wellness is here to help. Whether through hormone therapy, especially testosterone replacement, use of MonaLisa TouchLaser and O-shot to improve vaginal function and clitoral stimulation and orgasm, or weight management to improve self-image, to nerve function testing and couselling, we want you to be the best that you can be and enjoy your menopausal years with your partner.

What if I’m self-conscious during sex?

If you feel self-conscious due to a physical issue, Ovation Women's Wellness may be able to help. For example, 48% of women claim to avoid sex because of their concerns about their weight. The weight-loss program and nutrition counseling offered by Ovation Women's Wellness is the perfect solution. If you're among the 27% of women who are self-conscious due to bladder and bowel issues, they have a solution for you, too.

Sexual health is important to your overall well-being and your relationships. While conversations aren't always easy, your honesty is crucial to their ability to help. The all-female team at Ovation Women's Wellness is here to support you.
